May is the perfect month to change and create decorative compositions. But the process of introducing new plants to flowerbeds and rabatki, as well as the design of new flowering ensembles, has its own strict rules and characteristics. Particular attention should be paid to the soil, its improvement and an individual approach to each plant.

Landing site preparation

The soil at the planting site for new objects should be processed at least a week before creating the compositions, dug to a depth of about 30-40 cm. In the process of preparing the soil, you should get rid of all large stones and weeds, break up large breasts and add organic to the garden soil and complete mineral fertilizer.

If you are going to adjust the existing plantings, then at least 3-4 days before the planned planting of new plants, remove from the flower beds all clumps that you consider unnecessary and want to replace with other plants.

Do not rush to throw away crops that have not proven themselves very well. Perhaps in other decorative objects in the garden, they will show themselves from a much better side. The soil in place of the plants also needs to be restored in advance by mixing organic fertilizers into it. But in this case, it is better to apply full mineral mixtures directly at planting.

Rules for planting crops in a flower garden

The May planting of new crops and the creation of flower beds has its own characteristics and rules:

  1. Before planting, seedlings must be immersed in water to saturate the roots with moisture for at least 15-30 minutes.
  2. Rhizomes in plants should be carefully inspected to remove any damaged areas.
  3. For each plant, the soil composition is checked and adjusted according to its requirements.
  4. When planting in May and creating or reconstructing flower beds for all perennials, you need to dig holes, twice their rhizomes.
  5. In order for the compositions to quickly bring the desired result, the plants adapt better, abundant watering must be provided not only after direct planting, but also within the next 2 weeks.

When correcting existing compositions, filling them with new plants, be sure to check compliance with the recommended distance for each crop to neighboring plants (not only for those bushes that you are just planting, but also for crops already growing on flower beds).

Preparation of sites for summer flower beds

As part of the work on the preparation, creation and reconstruction of decorative ensembles, do not forget to prepare sites for those decorative groups and flower beds that you will be creating in early summer or autumn:

  • flower beds for summer people;
  • flower beds-islands for seasonal accents;
  • sites on which new bulbs will be planted in the fall;
  • places for planting peonies or herbaceous perennials on the lawn and meadows from ground cover;
  • sites for new ceremonial flower beds.

They should be prepared before the end of May. As part of the work, they carry out the traditional deep digging of the soil, get rid of weeds and stones, apply organic and mineral fertilizers to the soil, loosen and level.
