I don’t know about you, but I’m interested in everything unusual. So I decided to try to plant colored tomatoes on my site. I bought seeds of a green variety, yellow, brown, black, orange and white … And I waited to compare, to understand what the secret is in each of them, and how their multi-colored fruits differ. And what do you think?! This experiment brought me and my family a lot of pleasure and an unexpected discovery - each color has its own taste! It is surprising!

Despite the fact that our markets are mainly saturated with red tomatoes, there are more than 10 variations in fruit color in the palette of this crop. And this is not only the usual yellow, orange, pink and black for us. But also a combination of shades in the form of a transition from one to another, coloring in the form of stripes. Seeing such a miracle on sale, many do not risk buying them, and in vain!

After all, red tomatoes are good only because they have an attractive marketable shape, uniform fruit color and elastic skin. They are chosen for mass production because they are better stored, easier to transport, and can ripen harvested. But if a tomato bed is cultivated for itself, completely different qualities should be put in the first place, and they often belong to colored tomatoes.

What is the difference between tomatoes of different colors?

If we talk about multi-colored tomatoes in general, then their main distinguishing quality is a low acidity content, or its complete absence, and a large percentage of sugars. Such fruits are tasty, aromatic, often have flavor nuances of berries or fruits, often more juicy. They are pleasant to eat and only plucked from the garden, and in a salad. And if such varieties start in the garden - neither children nor adults can be driven away from them.

The yellow, orange and pink fruits of tomatoes are prized for their high carotenoid content. And they, as you know, improve blood composition, heal the intestines and liver, have a beneficial effect on vision, strengthen the immune system, normalize appetite, are prevention against atherosclerosis, and regulate the acid-base balance of the body.

The middle of such fruits is usually lighter than the flesh of the peel; the inside is juicy, characterized by increased tenderness. Fruits of these flowers are good in salads, and in sauces, and in seaming. The choice of varieties allows you to find any form that suits you.

Black, brown and purple tomatoes are more prized for their high amounts of acitans. Acitans are strong antioxidants and have the following properties: they increase the elasticity of blood vessels, relieve spasms, have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic effects, have bactericidal, sedative, choleretic and antiviral properties, lower blood cholesterol levels, normalize blood pressure, and strengthen immunity.

The fruits of these flowers may not be as sweet as the yellow-orange-pink group, but their taste is considered pleasantly refreshing. The color of dark tomatoes is uneven and has a pronounced effect on the side that was more in the sun. The pulp is juicy. The only drawback is that they are not very beautiful (although not for everybody here) they look in salads and are not suitable for preservation.

All the same features are inherent in blue varieties.

White tomatoes are a special group. Those who were involved in their cultivation, believe that these are the most unusual varieties available in the selection. Their value lies in the fact that they contain very little oxalic acid and a lot of sugars in their fruits, they have a high content of vitamin A and flavones, which give them their white color. Nutritionists recommend them to people with increased salt deposition, various diseases of the liver and stomach, fragility of blood vessels and high susceptibility to stress.

The taste of white tomatoes is often completely different from the usual red ones and can resemble melon, grapes, peach or other exotic berries. They can be used both fresh and preserved. An interesting feature of these varieties is their reaction to the sun - the longer, being mature, they remain in direct sunlight, the more yellow they become.

Tomatoes with green fruits are no less useful. They also contain a lot of sugars and few acids, but they are not even valued for this, but for the high content of chlorophyll in their tissues. Why is it important for our body? Chlorophyll increases the level of hemoglobin, heals ulcers and wounds, removes harmful substances from their tissues, strengthens cells.

Green fruits of tomatoes also do not contain allergenic substances and therefore are recommended for allergy sufferers and children. Their taste is varied, often reminiscent of the taste of tropical fruits. It is interesting that almost all varieties of this group are high-yielding. The only "but" in this color palette is that it is not so easy to determine their maturity - only by the slight yellowing or acquired softness of the fruit.

Growing colored tomatoes

It is believed that caring for colored tomatoes differs from the agricultural technology of red tomatoes. However, practice shows that it has no peculiarities. Both yellow and green and black, and all other varieties of this wonderful berry (vegetable), just like the usual red ones, can be grown both in a greenhouse and in open ground, they like moist soil, they can have indeterminate and determinant forms, are afraid of the same pests and are subject to similar diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of them following similar rules.

You should know that black-fruited varieties have a reaction to the acidity of the soil: when it rises, they acquire a dirty red color. And green varieties are less susceptible to fungal diseases, so they can be grown without chemistry.

There is still one significant difference: if you take a chance and plant colored tomatoes, then you cannot refuse them later!
