5. Tomato "Long Keeper" - the best tomato for long-term fresh storage

Of course, in our time, supermarket shelves are full of numerous imported vegetables. But, I think, no one will argue that the use of their food brings dubious benefits, and at times - and harm.

Once in a display case with tomato seeds, I noticed a very unusual looking tomato with an ivory color. After reading the annotation, I realized that this interesting tomato is exactly what we need, since this variety was presented as a long-stored tomato for winter consumption.

The peculiarity of the Long Keeper variety is that the fruits never ripen on the bush, but reach already in the storage process for 30-35 days. It is also interesting that its fruits are never red.

When we put the tomatoes for storage, they had a whitish slightly greenish color, after which they turned yellowish, and upon reaching full maturity, they acquired a pinkish tint. But if you cut the fruit, then inside you can find the usual red pulp.

The size of flat-round fruits is average - 130-150 grams. This tomato fully fulfilled all the promises of seed producers regarding long-term storage, and the tomatoes lay not only until the New Year holidays, but literally until spring (until the beginning of March).

Frankly speaking, I cannot call the Long Keeper hybrid really tasty; compared to summer varieties, its taste is one hundred percent lower. However, during the period of using these fruits, there is, of course, nothing to compare with. And against the background of imported "plastic" tomatoes, this tomato is a real delight. In addition, it is grown by our own hands without unnecessary chemicals, long-distance transportation and processing for better storage.

By the nature of growth, the Long Keeper variety is determinant, the bushes are of medium thickness, but in a greenhouse they can reach one and a half meters. The ripening period is, accordingly, late.

Disadvantages of the Long Keeper tomato variety

The main disadvantages of the variety are the pale, not too appetizing appearance of the fruits, not very high yields and average resistance to diseases. It is also important to have time to harvest all the fruits before frost.
