2. Tomato "Katya" - the best tomatoes for pickling
Katya F1 is a relatively new hybrid of Russian selection, bred by the Semko selection and seed company. Due to the combination of several valuable qualities, this hybrid is recognized in our family as the best tomato for winter harvesting.
First, the Katya tomato is ultra-early ripening - that is, only 75 days pass from seed germination to active fruit ripening. Thanks to this, you can have time to preserve the required amount of tomatoes for the winter already in the first half of summer. That is, before the weather can deteriorate and late blight rages, and with peace of mind continue to enjoy summer days.
Secondly, the fruits of a hybrid are of medium size (100-130 grams) and will easily pass into the neck of a three-liter jar. And thirdly, amicable ripening and giving of fruits can be attributed to the positive features of the variety.
Usually tomatoes of this hybrid are one-dimensional, as if on selection, spherical, uniform red color with a slight sheen. In addition, these tomatoes are incredibly productive, the ovaries are formed in brushes of 5-7 pieces. There are many such abundant brushes on the bush, which is clearly noticeable even to the neighbors, who were also impressed by this hybrid.
The taste of fresh tomatoes is very pleasant, it can be described as a classic tomato, sweet with a slight sourness, so in salads it also went "with a bang". The nature of the growth of the bush is determinant (up to 80 centimeters). To make the fruits larger, you can form a bush of 2-3 stems or remove stepsons.
This hybrid has shown very high resistance to unfavorable weather conditions, as it does not have a tendency to cracking fruits and sunburn. According to the originators, the variety is tolerant to apical rot, tomato mosaic virus, Alternaria and late blight. During the cultivation of such diseases in our beds, "Katya" really was not observed.
Note: some other hybrids of the Semko company stand out with a similar set of positive qualities, which can be grown instead of Katya or simultaneously with it: Anyuta F1, Pink Katya F1 and Bokele F1. All these hybrids have a low fruit weight (up to 130 grams), high yield and early ripening. Outwardly, these hybrids are very similar, however, "Pink Katya" and "Bokele F1" are distinguished by a lighter pinkish color of the fruit, in contrast to the dark red "Katya" and "Anyuta".
Disadvantages of the tomato hybrid "Katya"
The disadvantages include insufficiently sweet taste, which is more characteristic of varietal tomatoes, in contrast to hybrids. Another small drawback is the high cost of seeds and the need to purchase them annually, since the plant is of hybrid origin.
