Video: Chrysanthemum Plant Care After Winter + Propagation-Getting Them Back To Bloom 2024, March

What a charm these chrysanthemums are: autumn, and they bloom, as if nothing had happened, but so cheerful! Yellow, orange, white, pink, they shine in flower beds until the very frost.

Chrysanthemums are drought-resistant and are not afraid of autumn frosts. Bloom for almost two months. The buds bloom even after a temporary temperature drop to minus 7 °. Moreover, with a gradual cooling, the stability and brilliance of flowers only increases.

Chrysanthemums are light-requiring, in shaded places they are strongly elongated, lie down and bloom poorly. With good care, they can also be grown on marginal clay or sandy soils. I prepare the site for chrysanthemums in the fall, digging it onto a shovel bayonet, and plant rooted cuttings in the spring, after the danger of frost has passed.

I select healthy, abundantly flowering, typical bushes for the mother plants. In October-November, I plant them in pots or boxes and store them in the cellar, periodically watering them so that the roots do not dry out.

I start grafting in February-April. One and a half to two weeks before the start of work, I bring the mother liquors into the house. When the shoots reach 10-15 cm, I cut the cuttings. I plant them to a depth of 2-3 cm in a mixture of sand, rotted manure and earth. I spray them with water twice a day. At the same time, they almost all take root.

If the mother plants are left in the open ground for the winter, then even more cuttings can be "collected", but young plants will bloom later. When the ground freezes, I warm the bushes with peat, humus, fallen leaves or tomato tops.
