4. The bell is equal-leaved

It’s hard to imagine a plant that would be better suited to the epithet “cute” than these indoor bells. It is truly the undisputed leader among lush accents, affectionately referred to as a shooting star. Campanula as plants suitable for growing indoors, began to be considered only relatively recently and are not yet familiar to most flower growers. But those who have at least once seen the miracle of the blooming bell on the windowsill can no longer imagine their collection without it.

Campanula isophylla, or Campanula isophylla
Campanula isophylla, or Campanula isophylla

The traditional flowering period of Campanula isophylla lasts from July to September, although today many varieties have been bred that can bloom from March to mid-autumn, that is, for a much longer period.

In indoor campanula, flowers are not quite standard bell-shaped. Wide open, with pointed corolla lobes, cupped or bell-shaped, they resemble the flowering of the best varieties of groundcover garden bells, rather than the classic and legendary drooping bells of the more familiar perennial species. But in room culture, this form only reveals the abundance of flowers and their amazing simple elegance even more advantageously.

The range of colors of campanul is not so extensive. It includes only various variations of white and blue or blue-lilac colors, but the delicate shades of heavenly or blue flowers make an unforgettable impression.

During flowering, the plant itself is almost completely hidden under the abundance of flowers, which often makes it difficult to appreciate the beauty of the bushes themselves.

The dense, hanging, very flexible shoots are decorated with simple oval leaves with a pointed tip, they are distinguished by increased fragility and tenderness. Bushes break and damage easily even during simple rearrangement. The rich color of the leaves perfectly emphasizes the beauty of flowering.

Indoor bells are perennials that don't need to be thrown away after flowering. For them, you can provide a cool winter and choose a care that will allow you to achieve re-flowering.

It is not easy to create a really comfortable containment regime for indoor bells. This plant prefers rather cool and bright places, it can be grown even outdoors or taken out on a balcony, terrace, in a garden. In the room, it is advisable to protect the indoor campanula from the heat. During the winter, to ensure the correct dormancy period, the plant will need air temperature readings no higher than 15 degrees Celsius. The optimal range is 5 - 10 degrees. Campanula are not very fond of direct sunlight, but at the same time they need the most saturated, bright lighting. Rooms with indoor bells should be ventilated frequently.

Caring for this plant is quite simple. Campanula like frequent weekly top dressing during the period of active growth, they need regular, but not too abundant watering, which does not allow either drying out or waterlogging of the soil. During the dormant period, the plants are watered sparingly and not fed. To maintain compactness and stimulate flowering in March, after transplantation, the plants are heavily pruned and rearranged to a warmer place.

The indoor bell propagates very simply: the bushes constantly grow, grow in breadth, and they can be divided into several divisions to obtain new specimens. You can get your campanula both through seeds and by cutting the tops of the shoots during active growth in spring.
