10. Dahlias

Among the non-wintering in regions with harsh winters, but at the same time unpretentious, easy to care for, surprisingly brightly flowering plants that reach the peak of decorativeness in autumn, one cannot fail to mention dahlias. Digging in the fall and planting in the spring is a small price to pay for the beauty of their regal bloom.

Dahlias today are on sale only as hybrid varietal plants from the garden dahlia category. Their thickened, fleshy roots are often called root cones. Managing to grow powerful bushes every year, the dahlia demonstrates amazing ability for powerful growth. The maximum plant height is not even limited to 2.5 m, although you can choose dwarf, medium-sized and tall varieties to your taste.

Cirrus leaves up to 40 cm long create a beautiful, easily recognizable silhouette, spreading sparsely and oppositely on the shoots, and creating the ideal background for large and spectacular inflorescences.

It is very difficult not to recognize the flowering of dahlias. Large baskets with a cupped wrap, ligulate and tubular flowers are simple, double, and semi-double. The difference in the structure of inflorescences, their shape and even the shape of the petals makes it possible to distinguish among the dahlias peony, collar, pompom, cactus, anemone, fantasy, nymphae, single-row and many other varieties. The size of the inflorescences can range from 5-6 cm in dwarf varieties to more than 20 cm in large-flowered varieties.

Dahlias bloom in the second half of summer. Some varieties join the chorus of summer colors, others are waiting for the autumn parade, but the flowers of this plant last until the last - until the breath of winter forces them to dig out the plants from the soil and transfer the tubers to storage indoors.

Dahlia's color palette is varied. All shades from white to dark red, not excluding cold, warm or multicolored variations, can be found in the true autumnal color scheme of this amazing tuberous plant.

Dahlias are used in individual flower beds, spots, on the lawn, they are introduced, as seasonal accents, on empty places of flower beds and rabatki.

Dahlias demand the right location. They love good lighting and free air circulation, but they hate wind sites. Nutritious, loose, light, pre-prepared soils are the best option.

Dahlias will not please without care. Watering, feeding, weeding, pinching - but none of the procedures goes beyond the usual care of flowering crops.

Dahlias are planted in the spring after the return frosts have passed, along with cold-resistant summer houses. And they dig out the rhizome after stable cold weather comes.
