1. Decorated Chinese gentian
The latest of all gentians, and the brightest among the non-dark species, the Chinese gentian is a special plant. Among humble perennials, this autumn star seems to be the most touching. If you find the right place for this type of gentian, then it will not be equal in its ability to grow.
Decorated Chinese gentian is a beautiful species up to only 15 cm high. The bushes of the plant sprawl and form thick cushions or carpets, thanks to creeping shoots. The twigs are able to root at the nodes, which allows the plant to form pillows. The density of the leaves makes the plant very elegant even before flowering.
Large bells of the Chinese decorated gentian conquer many - and an asymmetrical rim with sharp "peaks", and a touching color, and unusually graceful light stripes. The flowers seem to be very large, their diameter is about 5 cm.
Chinese gentian blooms very late. She first declares her blue perfection only in September, transforming everything around with bright bells.
The Chinese gentian has become famous for its unique shade of sky-blue tone. Unlike ultramarine spring-summer gentians, this one seems dazzlingly bright, as if nature itself has created a shade for perfect contrast with the yellow-fiery fallen leaves.
Decorated gentian is a plant for creating colorful accents and spots. It is used in combination with bulbous, mainly in those places of the garden where there is no risk of stagnant water - on rocky hills and in rockeries. But when creating spots near shrubs with a transparent crown, and on flower beds or in mixborders with a front garden, it is also good.
Only acidic soil with a good organic content is suitable for this gentian. It does not tolerate bright areas and develops normally only in soft partial shade when planted with plants that bloom and develop earlier, shading it at the very beginning of spring. The soil should be permeable, with the addition of gravel or sand. Plant care consists of watering with soft water, controlling weeds, and maintaining the acidic reaction of the soil.
