After picking apples in the orchards, when the baskets and crates are filled with fragrant, juicy fruits, it is so nice to relax over tea … of course, with apple cakes! What could be simpler than puff pastry with apples? It depends on how you serve! You can make simple "envelopes" or "corners" with apple filling - or create magical apple roses from puff pastry using the same ingredients!

A little more time to prepare a dessert is worth it to see the admiration of households and guests. Spectacular apple puffs in the shape of roses will delight children and even adults! And in the course of autumn you will cook such roses "for an encore" more than once.

Apples are not needed loose, like potatoes - they will break when thinly sliced, but juicy and firm, which can be cut into thin slices. Roses made from bright red apples (Jonathan, Idared) look the most beautiful, but you can try with green and sunny yellow varieties.

Method of making baked apple roses from puff pastry

As usual when working with ready-made puff pastry, take it out of the freezer in advance and leave it at room temperature for half an hour.

In the meantime, the dough is thawing, prepare the apples. Wash them, wipe them with a napkin, cut them into halves or quarters, peel them and cut them into slices as thin as possible. Too thick pieces of apples will break when the dough is rolled up. Therefore, ideally, apple slices should "glow" - the thinner the "petals" of apple roses, the easier it will be to roll them, and the more graceful the roses will look.

To prevent the apples from darkening, you can sprinkle the slices with lemon juice.

When the dough becomes soft, we start forming the "roses". First, roll out the dough a little with a rolling pin, in one direction to preserve the layers. We need a cake with a thickness of about 2-3 mm.

And then we take … a ruler. Yes, for the embodiment of this recipe you will need not a culinary, but a drawing tool! Under the ruler, mark and cut the puff pastry into strips about 5 cm wide, 20-25 cm long.

Using a pastry brush, grease the strips with apricot jam.

And then we spread apple slices on strips of dough - slightly overlap and so that the edges of the "petals" protrude slightly above the edge of the dough, and the lower half of the strip remains free.

Now bend the dough strip in half so that the apple slices appear as if in a pocket.

And we roll the strip with apples into a roll.

Here is such a beautiful coral rose! You can even make green roses from apples! Or two-colored - choose apples of different colors and varieties and get creative!

Now, so that the roses do not unwind during baking and retain their shape, they need not just be placed on a baking sheet, but placed in muffin tins, most conveniently - in silicone ones that perfectly keep their shape and do not need lubrication (except for those molds that are used for the first time).

Metal molds can also be used, but grease them with vegetable oil to prevent the dough from sticking. But paper ones will not work - they are very thin and baking can be deformed.

If you do not have molds, and you want to make apple roses, you can try to bake roses, holding them together with toothpicks. Only then be sure to take out the inedible "fasteners".

We put the roses in the oven, preheated to 190-200 ºС, and bake for 40-50 minutes. The roses are ready when the soft, raw puff pastry becomes almost dry (taking into account the moisture from the apples) and golden. If the edges of the apple "petals" begin to burn before the dough is ready, cover the "roses" with a sheet of baking foil.

When the ready-made "roses" have cooled down a little, we transfer them from the molds to the dish. The treat will become even more beautiful if you sprinkle the puffs with powdered sugar through a strainer.
