5. Plants for the pond bank
Conditions similar to any flower garden and rabat allow you to use any kind of plants to decorate the shore. But the semantic load, the need to create a harmonious design of the water body significantly limits the possibilities. After all, not all plants will allow you to beautifully frame a pond and create a natural look. On the shore, crops are used that will form a single whole with the vegetation planted in the rest of the zones and link together the aquatic plants and the rest of the garden. It is here that designers and gardeners get a chance to unfold their imagination with might and main: it is the coast that is the style-forming basis of all landscaping and must embody the necessary artistic image.
- The length of the zone: from the film line to any area.
- Humidity level: the same as in the rest of the site.
- Dominant plants: flowering and decorative deciduous perennials.
The beautiful daylily (Hemerocallis) is one of the favorites of contemporary coastal design. Its lush, constantly growing sod bushes of narrow leaves resonate perfectly with plants in shallow water and bogs. The choice between varieties with a wide variety of flower colors - white, yellow, orange, red, heights from only 30-50 cm to more than a meter, and even flowering periods from early to late summer - all this allows everyone to find their ideal daylily for framing a pond.
With perennials large size decorating swamp and wet lawn, would parallel Astilbe Arends (Astilbe arendsii). This beauty in partial shade will create a lacy haze with red, white, pink weightless panicles of inflorescences, which seem to create a second tier above dense bushes.
Of flowering plants with a non-flowering should pay attention to Digitalis purpurea (Digitalis purpurea) with its large bell-shaped inflorescences candles, as well as the cup-shaped flowers of blue color meconopsis large (Meconopsis grandis). Delphinium (Delphinium), Volzhanka (Aruncus) and autumn asters (Symphyotrichum) will not look "foreigners" in rabatkas. Assign the composition together to help Wallenstein (Waldsteinia) and Ajuga reptans (Ajuga reptans).
Major emphasis in landscape style can arrange Rogers konskokashtanolistnaya (Rodgersia aesculifolia). Large leaves and a height of almost 2 m, coupled with the July flowering of cream panicles, can not be called otherwise expressive. Culture for catchy accents is better not found, except perhaps with the exception of Darmer, with its stately beauty of giant round leaves.
Tradescantia (garden forms are represented by hybrids Tradescantia virginiana) is an infrequent visitor to the pond, but it looks amazingly touching against the background of the traditional inhabitants of the coastlines. Unusual blooms in a cold range and bright greens go well with other inhabitants of a wet lawn and shore.
In the design of most ponds, cereals are actively used. And coastal landings are no exception. Impressive and large Chinese miscanthus (Miscanthus sinensis) with its simple and variegated varieties, or more compact large shaker (Briza maxima), maned barley (Hordeum jubatum), pinnacle (Pennisetum) - there are plenty to choose from.
The shaded parts execute with joy spectacular landscaping task host (Hosta) and a variety of ferns. They will help solve problems where large crops create thick shade and the classic coastal stars cannot settle.
There is a place on the shore for both trees and bushes. But you need to choose carefully: the plants should be not only picturesque, but also unpretentious, not too pollute the coastal area and the water surface. Followers among trees and shrubs - decorative Viburnum (e.g., viburnum folded Viburnum plicatum with its flaps inflorescences and Japanese silhouettes or sferovidnaya viburnum Karls - Viburnum carlesii), weeping decorative apple, Magnolia stellata (Magnolia stellata) for southern regions hardy rhododendron Caucasian (Rhododendron caucasicum), Fori (Rhododendron fauriei), Yakushiman (Rhododendron yakushimanum), Katevba(Rhododendron catawbiense), doren (Cornus) and maples (Acer). If the garden is decorated in a regular style, then in the composition you can introduce shorn or naturally strict junipers, thuja, privet, beeches and lindens.
