1. Kirkazon large-leaved
This vine is famous for the fact that its foliage resembles a green tile. Such an illusion is created not only due to the patterned arrangement of Kirkazon leaves, but also due to their large size.
Large-leaved Kirkazon is a fairly large shrub vine, characterized by rapid growth. Bare shoots, thin, green. The large leaves of kirkazon are located one above the other, creating an ornament resembling a tile or brickwork. Heart-shaped and up to 30 cm in diameter make each leaf an unforgettable sight. The green color of Kirkazon is quite light, rich grassy green.
The flowering of Kirkazon is often called unremarkable, but not close. Tubular flowers of a nondescript brown-purple color captivate with their shape: a cone-shaped tube, a three-lobed disc-shaped limb make it possible to classify Kirkazon as exotic. The beauty of the flowers is worth considering in detail, because it is thanks to them that Kirkazon got its nickname: the shape and bend resemble smoking pipes. Flowers are replaced by original fruits, however, under the mass of large leaves, they are hidden from free inspection. And the fruits are not tied so often: Kirkazon is a predator liana, pollinated by flies that fall into a trap inside the flower. Kirkazon begins to bloom from the age of five or later.
- Botanical Name: Aristolochia macrophylla
- Other names: pipe kirkazon, tiled liana, large-leaved aristolochia, calico flower
- Liana height: up to 8-10 m
- Vine flowering period: June or July
To grow Kirkazon, you just need to choose conditions that are comfortable for it. This plant requires sheltered, warm, secluded places and is excellent at shading. Leaves burst from the wind, so it is better to pay special attention to the choice of location. The soil should be fresh, permeable, nutritious, or at least medium nutritious. Pipe Kirkazon is not afraid of the polluted environment, copes well with urban conditions.
Kirkazon is propagated by shoots or grown from seeds.
Kirkazon is a regular style favorite. It creates a strikingly ornate effect while maintaining the same austere design. And its ornamentation is revealed in the best possible way surrounded by trimmed hedges when creating green arches and tunnels. But even in gardens of a natural style, as one of the most massive decorative deciduous plants, Kirkazon will not be lost. Liana looks massive and impressive, reliably protects from prying eyes, creates a dense canopy, grows quickly and seems very elegant. The fairly light color of the leaves pleasantly distinguishes the foliage against the background of its neighbors.
This liana is grown only on reliable supports. Kirkazons are great for massive arches, pergolas, pillars, but they look no worse on gazebos and trellises. This liana can be used to decorate the trunks of old trees and in the landscaping of the facade.
