Your own garden, your little piece of paradise, where you can plant whatever you want. Every day you go out, break through the weeds, water, sprinkle, and, in the end, you get the desired harvest. Harvesting is probably one of the most enjoyable things to do. But what to do if everything does not go as you want? If you are doing everything right and you want to get a good harvest, but not there, was it? What is the reason? Let's take a look at an example of proper watering when growing vegetable (bulgarian) peppers. And we will determine all the positive and harmful factors of watering that affect the development and fertility of pepper.
Bell peppers don't like drought
Pepper does not like drought and reacts very sharply and painfully to it. Therefore, if you decide to plant seedlings of vegetable peppers in the holes in dry weather, and even at low humidity, then you are guaranteed that half of your harvest will be lost.
Also, bell peppers under such weather conditions are very poorly pollinated, or even pollination may not occur. In such cases, the flower simply dries up and falls off. But if, nevertheless, pollination has occurred, although it was not complete, the fruit can set, but form ugly and tasteless.
When is the best time to water the bell pepper?
As we know, pepper blooms in phases, the flower bud is directed upward towards the sun, so watering must be carried out with each flower opening. It is necessary to water the pepper as often as possible, especially to intensify the watering of the pepper during dry times. On such days, watering is required twice a day, morning and evening. During the day, you should not water the pepper, as the hot sun will simply burn it.
After the pepper has been properly pollinated and the ovary has appeared, the pepper begins to grow. At the beginning, the pepper grows in length, then it begins to grow in width and only at the very end of its growth its walls begin to thicken. If at this very moment you do not monitor the pepper and do not give it the right amount of moisture, the fruits can turn out to be thin, dry and small.
But also don't overdo it. If the pepper is highly moistened, its roots can become weak or completely rot, which will lead to the death of the plant. Excess water can also attract the worst enemy of pepper - slugs, who will happily feast on your pepper and ruin your harvest.
A few words about top dressing bell pepper
Pepper loves feeding. Therefore, do not forget to add humus to the soil. Peppers need good aeration, so after watering, do not let the soil turn into a crust, aerate the soil in a timely manner. This will help you retain moisture for longer in the soil, as well as enhance good oxygen penetration to the roots of the plant.
