Floribunda roses were obtained by crossing polyanthus roses with hybrid tea. At first, almost all varieties of floribunda roses had no aroma, but later rose growers managed to get plants with a slight aroma of flowers.

Description

The history of the roses of the Floribunda garden group is associated with the name of the Danish breeder Poulsen, who, by crossing the Tea Hybrid and the Polyantovs, received varieties that inherited the virtues of their parents. In the process of further hybridization and selection, numerous cultivars appeared, which, in their characteristics, did not fit into the framework of the groups known by that time. Therefore, in the middle of the last century, a new group was singled out and named it Floribunda, which means "profusely flowering".

In the late 70s. of the last century, after the introduction of national classifications in some states, Floribunda roses in some countries retained their name, while in others they began to be called "bush roses with inflorescences", "hybrid polyanthus" and even "flower bed roses". The Russian classification has left the name Floribunda for this group of roses. It should be noted that many publications that have appeared recently do not adhere to the systematics accepted in the country, which creates confusion and confusion in the classification of roses.

So, this group includes varieties with large inflorescences, almost continuous flowering, in size and shape of the flower, as well as a wide range of colors that resemble Tea Hybrid. They inherited from the Poliantovs good disease resistance and high winter hardiness. The popularity of Floribunda roses has increased with the emergence of new, richly flowering varieties, which are practically not inferior in beauty, elegance and aroma of Tea Hybrid flowers. In recent years, many cultivars have appeared in this group, the distinctive features of which are short stature and small leaves. Such roses are distinguished by some breeding firms into a subgroup within Floribunda, while in others they appear as Patio roses. In Russia, these roses have just begun to appear.

Due to their advantages (long-term decorative effect, abundance of colors and aromatic shades, excellent quality of flowers in some modern varieties, unpretentiousness, high winter hardiness), Floribunda group roses are very popular. They are planted in flower arrays, along garden paths, in curbs, in single-sorted groups, from which you can create internal low hedges. They are also magnificent in standard form, especially aromatic cultivars. Some varieties are used for forcing and indoor culture.

The best varieties can be used to trace the evolution of this group of roses: from semi-double with small flowers to double varieties with outstanding advantages, from small inflorescences to armfuls without compromising the quality of the flower, from a weak aroma to an award-worthy fragrance. The creation of new products testifies to the success of the originators on the endless path to the perfect rose.

Landing

Planting and pruning techniques for floribunda roses are the same as for tea. Roses are planted in the spring so that the grafting site is 2-3 cm below the soil surface. Pruning is carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Spring pruning is the main one. First of all, the formation of a bush depends on it. Spring pruning of roses begins immediately after the final disclosure of plants after wintering or during spring planting.

The upper part of the shoots is cut off regardless of the variety; strong shoots are shortened to 10-15 cm, leaving 2-3 well-formed buds on them, and 1-2 on weak ones. For autumn planting, pruning is done in the spring, immediately after removing the shelter.

Care

Floribunda, which means “profusely blooming,” is a group of roses with large buds and almost continuous flowering. A distinctive feature of the floribunda rose is that its flowers do not grow one by one, but in inflorescences, sometimes several dozen pieces. Floribunda roses were bred by crossing hybrid tea and polyanthus roses. By the size and shape of the flower, as well as by the abundance of colors, floribunda roses very much resemble their "parents" - hybrid tea roses. The main advantage of the floribunda rose is that it is easy to care for and more frost-resistant.

Pruning floribunda rose varieties

In varieties of roses of the floribunda group, with a slight spring pruning, flowering occurs early. With strong pruning, the bushes are obtained with strongly elongated shoots and bloom in August, and some varieties only in September, forming flowers at the ends of long lodging shoots (Alpin Glow). Moderate pruning of 4-6 eyes gives the best results in this group of varieties. Such pruning contributes to the normal development of shoots and ensures timely, abundant summer flowering (flowering begins in the first decade of June). It is recommended that you do not leave wood older than two years on the bush when pruning. Summer pruning of varieties of the floribunda group (Lights of Yalta; Koster Artek, Heart of Danko, Flame of the East, Red Poppy, Eslanda Robson, etc.) makes it possible to obtain three to four periods of almost continuous flowering.

Blue Bajou - Blue Bajou

The variety brought the dream of a blue rose closer to reality. The pale bluish-lilac color looks more blue against the background of yellow roses with a “crumbly” flower shape. The cultivar, according to observations, does not differ in good health, reacts to changes in temperature and humidity. Despite these shortcomings, you can hardly give up the pleasure of seeing it in your collection.

Sangria - Sangria

This rose is a representative of the new range of the Floribunda group. According to the literature, the variety is stable and hardy in any conditions; it needs rejuvenating pruning only once every 3-5 years. The flower is of an interesting constitution, as if consisting of rosettes of two tiers: the lower one is about 6 cm in diameter from bright crimson petals, the inner one is about 3 cm in diameter, tightly assembled from small pointed petals of the same color. This rose appeared in my collection only in the last season. Noteworthy is the extreme durability of flowering while maintaining the color intensity.

Application

Rose floribunda
Rose floribunda

The use of roses for landscaping cities, villages, and private plots is widespread. In almost every garden and park, you can definitely find a flower bed with roses or an avenue of standard roses, as well as groups of roses or single bushes. It is difficult to find a garden or small piece of land near the house, wherever roses are grown.

Roses are used as indoor plants or grown in greenhouses for flowering in late autumn and early spring.

In the green construction of parks and gardens, different groups of roses are used to decorate various objects. One of the best decorative compositions is a rose garden (a specially designated area). Flower beds, rabatki, curbs, etc. are broken on it.

Some varieties are selected for flower beds, others for rabatki, others for covering decorative architectural structures (gazebos, pergolas, columns, arches), and still others for alpine gardens (rocky areas) and lawn edging.

When decorating a site with roses, they strive to create continuity and colorfulness of flowering. This is achieved through the appropriate selection of varieties, taking into account the timing and duration of their flowering, as well as the color of the flowers.

Roses are planted on the site according to a pre-planned plan. According to the color of the flowers, roses are arranged in a harmonious or contrasting combination.

The color of rose flowers is very rich in tones and shades: from pure white, yellow-orange to bright and dark red.

The bright, clean colors of the flower are best combined. Dark colored varieties are best planted between white, yellow and light pink varieties. White will work well with any other, but it makes a better impression when planted in contrast to red.

Rose varieties with crimson-crimson flowers will not give the desired effect if planted next to crimson or purple-crimson. Red rose varieties should be planted next to paler varieties for contrast.

Sometimes roses with scarlet and fiery flowers are planted among the pink varieties.

Varieties with carmine pink flowers can be planted with varieties with white or light yellow flowers.

Cream or white roses should be planted with orange or yellow-red roses. White, cream and pale yellow roses can be planted with any other color.

For a greater effect, varieties of roses with salmon pink flowers should be planted next to orange, cherry or fiery bushes.

Pale pinks can be gradually enhanced by picking varieties with matching color tones to hot pinks that will also look good in the neighborhood in dark raspberry varieties.

It is good to plant bright varieties in massifs.

The two-tone rose varieties are rich in shades of different colors and are attractive in themselves. It is best to plant them yourself.

A rose garden is the best form of decorative display of roses. It lists varieties by color, and also shows the various uses of roses.

Shrub varieties of roses on clumps are planted in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 1.5 m from one another. Standard roses should be planted at a distance of 2-3 m. The color of the flowers of standard roses should be in harmony with the varieties near which they are planted. Curly roses for garlands are planted at a distance of 1.5 m from one another.

In the rose garden, plants should be planted in rectangular beds, squares, groups and rows. All sorts of curls and angles make it difficult to view bush and standard roses during the flowering period.

Areas for the rose garden should be set aside in sunny, open places, preferably on the southern or southwestern slopes, sufficiently sheltered from the north and north-east winds.

It is recommended to plant vigorous or standard roses grafted with the best varieties on flower beds in the center of a rose garden or flower garden. Strong bush roses are also planted on the lawn in the form of tapeworms (single plants).
