Video: Gardening Calendar For June

Here is the long-awaited summer. But for gardeners and truck farmers this is not a time of rest, but the continuation of numerous works. And despite the fact that the hassle has become much less, compared to the previous month, they still exist and the future harvest depends on them.
Everything that has to be done at the beginning of the summer season is directly related to plant care. In June, they need to be weeded, fed, formed, and if necessary, new crops must be sown directly into the soil. Therefore, you should not relax, but you need to be patient and, having planned the time, get down to business!

Watering
Despite the fact that in some climatic zones the threat of recurrent frosts has not yet passed, most garden crops have already been planted in beds and opened after wintering. Now, when the temperature indicators are gradually growing up, and the plants not only increase the vegetative mass, but also lay the harvest, compliance with the watering regime has become especially relevant.
However, it is necessary to charge the beds with moisture competently: water the plants in the morning or in the evening, always under the root or in the grooves prepared in advance, mulch after watering. And in no case save on the time and water spent, since surface watering provokes the formation of the bulk of the roots in the upper layer of the soil, which quickly dries up at the height of summer and does not provide the plants with sufficient nutrition.
Weeding
Weeding remains a topical issue in June. Weeds are a serious competitor to cultivated plants in terms of moisture, nutrient intake, and access to the sun. Therefore, the fight against them must go on constantly and have a stable result. The most common method in this "war" is weeding the beds by hand, trimming weeds with a hoe, and mulching.
A less laborious method is the use of herbicides. But it is not safe to use them, since along with the suppression of weeds, they tend to accumulate in the soil in the form of decomposition residues, which gradually leads to phytotacticity - suppression of crops in terms of growth, development, seed formation and yield in general, as well as resistance to diseases.

Thinning
This agrotechnical technique is carried out immediately, as soon as the young plants can be grabbed. At the same time, with one hand they pull out excess seedlings, and with the other they hold the ground around them. The process is carried out in several steps, on wet soil, very carefully, trying not to damage the desired shoots. After thinning, the beds are watered.
Trims
Top dressing is an important event at the very beginning of summer. For different crops, they have different periods and different doses of fertilization, but it is with their help that you can strengthen the plants and help them not only plant, but also form an excellent harvest. If you are afraid of purchased fertilizers, use ash, herbal tinctures, mullein solution (1:20).

Formation of plants
For the formation of high-quality fruits, competent plant formation is also necessary, or rather, the correct distribution of the load. In the matter of tomatoes, this technique is called pinching. In order for the tomatoes to direct their forces to the development of fruits, and not to strengthen the growth of green mass, every week with the help of scissors it is necessary to remove the lateral shoots in the axils of their leaves, leaving a "stump" of no more than 1 cm.
This technique is best done in the morning. At the same time, in tall varieties (above 1.5 m in height), it is necessary to remove all stepchildren, in medium-sized varieties (up to 1.5 m in height), leave two stepsons under the first flower bud, and not to pinch the undersized varieties at all.
Do not forget about the formation of bushes of garden strawberries. Many of its varieties actively grow mustache during June, and if the berry bed is designed to harvest, and not new planting material, they must be cut regularly.
Inspect the planting of onions and garlic. If the plants start shooting, pinch the arrows that appear.
If you grow potatoes, then June will be the month of hilling. This technique is especially important in cold climatic zones, where return frosts are possible in June.
If the supports for cucumbers have not yet been installed in the garden, it's time to build them. In the practice of growing this crop, it has been noticed that it is the vertical arrangement of cucumber lashes that allows plants to form a larger amount of harvest and better resist diseases.

Sowing heat-loving crops
In early June, you can still sow seeds of heat-loving crops on the beds. It can be cauliflower, black radish, winter storage carrots, beans, melons, cucumbers, peas, green manure. In the middle of the month, spinach, watercress, and mustard are sown again. For next year's harvest, sown onion and chives are sown. In areas with a cold climate, seedlings are planted on the beds at this time.

Protection against diseases and pests
The time has come for repeated measures to protect plants from diseases and pests. To collect slugs, you need to set up traps - makeshift shelters in the form of pieces of plywood, boards, burlap, which must be spread out at a distance of 3 to 5 m from each other and periodically raised to catch pests. In the garden, it's time to fix the trapping belts on the trees and throw a bird net over the cherries. As a preventive measure against late blight of tomatoes, gradually remove the lower leaves from the tomato.
Examine black and red currant bushes for small orange specks. If they are, this is a manifestation of rust. Sick plants need to be treated with one of the copper-containing preparations. At the end of the month, it is worth removing and destroying single ripe berries from the bushes - sawfly larvae lurk in them.
Aphids may appear on cherries, pears, plums - start fighting it by spraying with onion or coniferous infusion, without waiting for a massive destruction of plants. To prevent the development of gray rot on strawberries, sprinkle the bushes with ash.

Harvesting
Despite the fact that the first month of summer is quite busy with work, there are pleasant chores in it, and they are associated with the first harvests. You can already collect asparagus sprouts, pick salad, remove early cabbage, feast on peas, radishes, enjoy strawberries, and at the end of the month - cherries and the first raspberries. For those who grow useful herbs - it's time to collect inflorescences of sage, St. John's wort, oregano and elderberry.
