The end of summer and the beginning of autumn for gardeners is only a little less active period than spring. And it's not just the harvest that needs to be harvested, sent for storage or processed on time. This is the time for planting and replanting perennial plants, and most importantly, taking care of the next year's harvest. For this purpose, special autumn fertilizers are used. What exactly are they for and how do they work? To help gardeners and truck farmers, our section "Question-Answer" and expert recommendations.

Question: autumn fertilizers, are they really needed?

This question will be answered by Dmitry Aleksandrovich Belozerov, head of the agrochemical service of Buisk Chemical Plant OJSC.

Answer: a person eats daily, except in special cases - illness, diet, etc. Can a plant miss a day and not get its nutrition? In artificial conditions - in hydroponics, probably yes. In nature - in the garden and vegetable garden, the soil provides plants with mineral components every day, but as much as it is fertile and provided. And it already depends on us.

On the eve of the next harvest, especially for fruit trees and shrubs, experts recommend focusing on potash, phosphorus components and trace elements in their dressings. This is correct, since during the period of formation and ripening of the fruit, the main process is the synthesis of sugars and carbohydrates, amino acids and vitamins.

When feeding in late summer and autumn dry or watering, we must understand that we provide not only the harvest of the current year, but also the next. Exactly!

It is not uncommon for gardeners to harvest apples in a year and attribute this to the fact that the trees are "resting". In fact, they do not rest, but accumulate "strength" for the next harvest, if they were not provided with mineral nutrition to a sufficient extent. By the way, in professional orchards, apple trees bear fruit every year. Systematic and dosed application of dressings allows you to give a good and high-quality harvest.

So what should we do?

Of course, feed our plants!

Depending on the preferences of the gardeners, there are always several options. In this article, we will consider soil fertilizers.

Mineral fertilizer "Autumn"

Mineral fertilizer "Autumn" does not contain nitrogen at all, a little phosphorus (5%) and a significant part of potassium (18%). The fertilizer is intended for dry application, followed by incorporation into the soil and subsequent watering. In addition to macronutrients, the fertilizer contains:

  • Calcium (8%) - it strengthens the root system, cell walls, provides protective properties;
  • Magnesium (2.5%) - improves photosynthesis, metabolic processes;
  • Boron (0.15%) - increases the taste of fruits, their size, affects the organic synthesis of sugars, carbohydrates and starch;
  • Sulfur (12%) - is a part of proteins, affects the course of photosynthesis, increases resistance to adverse conditions.

It must be applied during the period of the beginning of fruit formation and after harvesting.

Organomineral fertilizer "Autumn"

Organomineral fertilizer "Autumn"

Organomineral fertilizer "Autumn" is a more complex complex of macro- and microelements (N, P, K, Mg, S, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B). An organic peat granule "hides" the mineral components in itself and due to this, getting into the soil and in contact with the root system, it does not chemically burn it, as can happen with conventional mineral fertilizers. Fertilizer is milder in action and prolonged action.

In addition, each granule is treated with potassium humate, a natural growth stimulant that improves the survival of the root system, and a microbiological complex of two important bacteria Bacillus Subtilis and Bacillus Mucilaginosus. This is preventive protection against root rot, and additional assimilation of phosphorus and potassium from inaccessible soil reserves.

Fertilizer is also applied dry with incorporation into the soil and subsequent watering during the same phases of plant development - the beginning of fruit formation and after harvesting.

Question: Do you need autumn fertilizers for ornamental crops?

Answer: undoubtedly, not only fruit-bearing plants need good nutrition. For normal development, good foliage and reliable overwintering, ornamental crops - trees and shrubs and other perennial plants - require good feeding.

During the period of autumn planting and replanting, it is especially important to apply organic, mineral or organomineral fertilizers over the crown area or in the planting holes (pits). The survival rate of plants and their further growth depends on this.

Autumn fertilizer - monopotassium phosphate
Autumn fertilizer - monopotassium phosphate

Question: can autumn fertilizers be applied in spring?

Answer: it is worth noting that autumn types of fertilizers, for example, monopotassium phosphate, can be used in spring for a wide range of crops, but together with some nitrogen fertilizer in the form of a fertilizer mixture, or supplemented with separate fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers through irrigation. Whom it is more convenient.

Applying autumn fertilizers in the fall, we understand that their aftereffect extends to the next year. Since the root system does not absorb nutrients from the soil in winter, the doses of fertilizers for feeding plants fertilized in autumn can be reduced in spring.
