This plant does not attract much attention to itself until it begins to bloom and smell sweet, very strong and pleasant aroma. It is even difficult to determine with whom else the Chubushnik aroma is strong, or, as we call it, Garden Jasmine can compete. Perhaps with lilac, after which it begins to bloom. Most often, on our sites, there is a Corona moss, or a common mock (Philadelphus coronarius).

Chubushnik description
Chubushnik is a deciduous shrub with a large number of shoots, a superficial root system, 0.8-2 m high. It is unpretentious, frost-resistant. The flowers are white or creamy with a diameter of 2-5 cm, simple, double or semi-double.
Flowering begins in late May - late July. Blooms in the 3rd year after planting. Some species, such as Gordon's Chubushnik (garden jasmine) (Philadelphus gordonianus), can bloom again in the fall. Jasmine is resistant to pests and diseases, except that it can sometimes be affected by aphids.
In total, the mock-orange has about 65 species. Of greatest interest for landscaping are hybrid varieties of chubushniks. Among the most winter-hardy varieties from central Russia, the most famous are Lemoine's mockers (Philadelphus Lemoinei).
Growing a chubushnik
Landing
For planting a mock-orange, choose a sunny place with fertile soil. In the shade, flowering will be weakened. This plant does not like saline and damp soils. With regular feeding, it will delight you with its decorative effect for many years.
Chubushnik care
At the beginning of growth, the bush can be fed twice with mullein infusion, and after the end of flowering - with mineral fertilizers. Or, before flowering, feed the bush with dry fertilizer - pour a mixture of a glass of wood ash and 2 tablespoons of nitrophoska under it. And during the flowering period and after - liquid.
Due to young shoots, the chubushnik is constantly rejuvenating. And so that it does not grow arbitrarily, it is necessary to thin it out annually and cut off old branches every 2-3 years. The branches are cut off after the bush has faded. The thickening of the bushes has a bad effect on flowering. Over the summer, 2-3 times the soil around the mock-orange is loosened.
Reproduction of chubushnik
Chubushnik (garden jasmine) is propagated by layering, green cuttings, dividing the bush, root layers. Lignified cuttings are cut in the fall from annual growths. In early spring, they are planted at an angle, leaving only a couple of buds on the surface. The soil is kept moist.
At the end of the year, a root system is formed. And green shoots with 2-3 nodes (internodes should not be long) are cut in spring and summer during the growing season and planted in greenhouses or hotbeds. The leaves of the cuttings are cut in half after cutting. The lower cut is usually made oblique, the upper cut above the upper knot. Moisten the soil.
For propagation by green layers, annual shoots are used. Seed sowing is also possible, but it is rarely used. The depth of planting of the bushes is 50-60 cm, the root collar is deepened to a depth of no more than 2-3 cm, the chubushnik tolerates transplantation well.
The use of chubushnik in garden design
Most often, garden jasmine is planted as a tapeworm, hedges from it look spectacular, especially during the flowering period. True, this plant also looks great in the vicinity of other bushes - spirea, weigela, hydrangea.
The aroma of chubushnik (garden jasmine) leaves no one indifferent. Therefore, the extracts of this plant are used in the perfumery and food industries. Dried flowers give a great aroma to tea.
