Video: Radish Is Evil, But Sweet To Everyone. Photo

People say: "The radish is evil, but it is sweet to everyone." Of course, the "evil" is just an ordinary radish. And green radish, margelan - juicy and not bitter. It is because of the salad properties that many gardeners fell in love with it, displacing the old bitter varieties. Margelan radish is rounded, its leaves are strongly dissected. The variety is quite early maturing. In the Rostov region, green radish can be grown after harvesting early potatoes, peas and a number of other crops, which are harvested before July 10-20.
What is this vegetable? First of all, Margelan radish is not very demanding on the soil, but it grows well only on a fertilized area. They sow it in the middle of summer, from 10 to 20 July, sometimes later. Sown earlier, it overgrows and becomes empty, which, of course, is undesirable. I dig the area under the radish to the depth of one shovel bayonet, carefully break the lumps, level them. When the site is ready, I mark the beds using a stretched cord. I do this: in the center of the proposed ridge I pull the cord, from the cord I shovel the earth onto myself with a hoe. Then I remove the cord, stand facing the cut furrow and again scoop up the earth on myself.
After two passes, an erik (groove) with a depth of 15-20 cm and a width of 35 cm is obtained. The next erik I spend at a distance of 60-65 cm. The length of the bed is arbitrary. This method is good when it is possible to water with a slump. If watering is carried out by sprinkling, then the line markings are smaller.
I sow in a nesting way, 3-4 seeds per nest. The distance between the nests in the line is 15-17 cm, and the gap between the lines is 40-45 cm. I plant the seeds 1.5 cm into the wet ground. Before sowing, I fill the water with filling to the desired level (taking into account the weather). After a day or two, I place the seeds just above the water mark (2-3 cm).
Seedlings appear 4-5 days after sowing. It is during the germination phase that the radish should be protected from cabbage flea beetles. And, of course, do not forget to thin out the seedlings, leaving two plants in the nest, and then one at a time. When thinning, I look at the paint of the root crop.
The fact is that Margelan radish is unclean, so-called heterotic forms come across in it. Therefore, at the first thinning, I remove the roots with an uncharacteristic color. In the second, when the cord-like roots crack and real root crops develop, I repeat this operation. When the roots become as thick as a pencil, I make the final breakthrough, leaving the roots with only a green color.
And yet, despite this precaution, when harvesting, I find heterotic roots with a pink or light color and inappropriate sizes. I use this radish first of all.
While the radish is growing, I do not forget to weed and water it several times. After all, it is responsive to watering, although it does not tolerate waterlogging.
If the site is flavored with compost, then I do not use mineral fertilizers. If there was no organic matter, then before digging into the site I bring in superphosphate at the rate of 30-50 g per 1 m 2; during the growing season, a month after germination, I give another 30-40 g of urea for the same area. You can use a garden or flower mixture.
Radish, like all representatives of the cabbage family, is not afraid of short-term autumn frosts. But you should not delay cleaning. I start it ahead of time, taking advantage of the warm, dry weather. First, I roll the leaves: I do this by moving both hands in opposite directions (as if wringing out the laundry). If the storage space is not ready, then I collect the roots in a heap and temporarily cover them with earth. I store the radish in the cellar along with the carrots. Those who do not have a cellar can store root crops in a film bag, placing it in a frost-free room. An earthen hole with a manhole and insulated on top is also a suitable storage.
Growing margelan radish seeds is not difficult. To do this, I choose root crops characteristic in shape and color, and in the spring, when the ground completely thaws, I plant them in the ground. This plant is cross-pollinated, so it should grow in isolation from botanical relatives (radish, turnip, turnip). After planting the testicles, I immediately drive in meter-long stakes around them (up to 4 per testis). You can put the tops on the trellis. It is imperative to tie up flowering testes.
Yellowed pods will be a signal for harvesting. To provide yourself and your neighbors with radish seeds, it is enough to plant two seed plants. Seeds do not lose their germination for 3-4 years.
