Sea buckthorn, as a rule, is propagated by shoots, which this plant usually does not skimp on. But it happens that very little of it is formed (most often in good, non-prickly varieties), and then the question arises of an alternative method of propagation, for example, lignified cuttings, like black currant. True, in sea buckthorn they root somewhat worse, but if strong shoots, annuals, with a diameter of at least half a centimeter, and not lateral thin branches or tops, are taken on cuttings, then the percentage of rooting is quite decent. It is necessary to have time to prepare cuttings before the buds begin to swell. The cut off growths are stored in a snow pile, and cut into pieces (into cuttings) fifteen to twenty centimeters long just before planting.

It is better to plant "in the mud" in early spring, when the earth has already thawed, but has not yet had time to dry. For better rooting, cuttings are kept for four to five days in snow melt water (10-20 ° C) before planting, submerged 2/3 of the length. The water should be changed daily. Unlike currants, sea buckthorn cuttings are preferably planted vertically, it is possible only with a slight slope - otherwise, the trunks of future plants will be crooked.

Good results are obtained by planting in the slots of a dark film spread on the garden bed. But care must be taken that the film is firmly pressed to the ground, not lifted by growing cuttings or by the wind. For cuttings, it is important, very important in the first month how they were planted so that the air and soil are moist, and the outside temperature does not exceed thirty degrees. Well-developed plants can be planted in a permanent place as early as next spring.
