The elder bush is decorative during the period of generous spring flowering with white or yellowish-white flowers, collected in large thyroid inflorescences, and during the ripening period of black-purple or red berries (by the way, the elderberry is black and red). Raw berries contain toxic substances that decompose during boiling. From berries you can cook delicious jam, jam, marmalade, compote, jam, jelly. But the main thing in elderberry is its healing properties. Flowers are considered a good diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and laxative. The berries and the root are recommended for use against dropsy, dysentery, diabetes and kidney disease; bark - to improve kidney function. Young leaves, lightly boiled in milk, are used externally to treat burns.

It is advisable to have at least one bush in the garden, and preferably several elder bushes. Propagated by seeds, root processes. It grows very quickly - annual increments can reach 1.5 - 2 meters. It forms a lot of overgrowth, therefore, so that the elderberry does not fill the garden and the roots do not grow, pieces of slate should be buried at a distance of 1 - 1.5 meters from the bush, iron sheets to a depth of 50-70 cm. Elderberry does not require special care - remove the dried forest regularly and overgrowth: mulch the soil near the bushes with humus or compost with the addition of a small amount of mineral fertilizers. In the warm south and east, it is advisable to water it during dry periods.
