It is important to create good starting conditions for planting ground cover perennials. The soil should be clean, free of rhizome weeds (wheatgrass, peel), and the planting material should be of very good quality. In the year of planting, care will be needed: weeding, watering, possibly feeding.

Satin and silk
Dense, stable clumps of wide shiny leaves give smilacins and minikas. Flowers in all species are white, collected in medium-sized elegant inflorescences, they appear at the end of May. Plants are unpretentious and hardy.
They are similar to minikas in terms of growth in spectacularly flowering kupins - clumps grow to the sides with the help of a branched rhizome located in the upper layer of soil. In addition to the many-flowered, changeable and other tall species of interest, especially for small areas, the dwarf kupena low is of interest.
Disporums smilacinous and woolly cannot boast of spectacular flowering, but if the first autumn frosts usually pass your garden, then the curtain decorated with straw-yellow leaves will be decorative in a new way. At this time, the fruits are clearly visible - shiny berries: black in smilacin dysporum and red in woolly.

Leather
Perennials with dense leathery and, as a rule, wintering leaves are especially valuable because they are decorative from snow to snow. Recently, numerous varieties of popular badans have become available. Their rhizome is located superficially, so that a very small layer of nutrient soil is enough for badans. It is worth considering that with strong shading, they bloom weaker.

But liverworts will delight you with abundant flowering in the shade. The noble liverwort is most suitable for our purpose. In perennial plantings, it is quite possible to count on a stable increase in the occupied area with the help of self-seeding - the ants willingly take away the seeds. Terry forms of liverwort do not tie seeds.
Self-seeding helps to spread and round-leaved saxifrage. Its neat bushes, crowned in June with a cloud of small white flowers on high peduncles, are appropriate everywhere, they easily get along near or even inside the clumps of neighbors. Saxifrage shady grows into the ground cover, blooms already in June, openwork inflorescences are especially graceful in contrast to dense leathery leaves. The variegated form grows faster, but it has an overly “garden” look, not suitable for natural-style plantings.

The European hoof is durable, shade-loving and unpretentious, in addition it has winter-green leaves of the original shape - they look like a hoof track.
The hellebores bloom early, immediately after the snow melts. Among the stably blooming, resistant and durable in our climate are oriental and black hellebores. They develop better on nutritious non-acidic soils. The curtain grows rather slowly, but from the age of 5-6 the plants give abundant self-seeding. Second-year seedlings can be carefully planted in the spring. The dense, leathery leaves don't always look good after wintering, but the plants will not be affected at all if they are cut.

With pattern
The non-aggressive nature of growth is characteristic of speckled speckled. It has varieties with silvery or golden leaves that bloom in June with purple, pink or white flowers. Zelenchuk yellow is undemanding and much more active. Suitable only for large areas where it will quickly create a ground cover. Leaves with a silver pattern, flowers are light yellow.

Sugar lizard slowly grows a curtain, the leaves are soft, with silver spots. For our purposes, the natural look and the old ones close to it are suitable. Moreover, varieties with patterned leaves repeat well the varietal characteristics during self-sowing. Grow well in partial shade.
