In many countries of the world you can buy a new type of watermelon - square. Or rather, cubic. Such watermelons are grown using transparent plastic molds, said OLEG, who sent us these photos.

Square-shaped watermelons are not only easy to transport, but also efficiently fill retail space. This, in turn, leads to a decrease in transportation and other costs, which lowers the retail price of the watermelon. However, so far only in theory. Such curiosities are still expensive - about $ 80 apiece, and initially were sold for $ 300 per cube!

Square watermelons and melons are grown in Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan. Vegetable growers intend to continue their experiments and make peppers, turnips and radishes and other "oblong" vegetables square in order to facilitate their storage. Some agronomists - scientists base their experiments on the achievements of genetics. Others are simply young watermelons and cucumbers placed under a square glass jar or flask. In the process of growing in this "Procrustean bed", the round watermelon deforms into a cube, and the cucumber takes on any planned shape.

In Japan, gardeners' fantasies have gone very far. In the hands of vegetable growers, watermelons and cucumbers can take on completely fantastic shapes. Many details of the technology are patented and classified. But the principle is the same - a plastic template. In the photo you see not only cubic and pyramidal watermelons, but also completely fancy watermelons in the form of a human head!

By the way, students of the Japanese agricultural school Atsumi Agricultural High School also invented and patented cubic watermelons, which they called "Kaku-Melo". These berries (did you know that watermelon is not a fruit, but a berry?) Are not only decorative, but extremely sweet and tasty! Now "Kaku-Melo" is an officially registered trademark. These watermelons went on sale in Japan in early July 2007.

Let's add to this the following facts: in China, a watermelon with golden pulp was brought out, which has become incredibly popular, since gold in this country, as elsewhere, symbolizes wealth. In Israel, seedless watermelon is cultivated. A low-calorie watermelon with a reduced sucrose and glucose content and a high fructose content is also grown. Wow!

But this is all there, over the hill … But what was the case in Rostov-on-Don. A certain Zinchenko, posing as an amateur breeder, took part in various exhibitions several times, striking the audience with square tomatoes. They aroused such interest among gardeners that the "self-taught" made good capital by sending cash on delivery seeds of the allegedly bred variety called "Square". But the tomatoes who bought these seeds grew exceptionally round! It turned out that Michurin simply lays the ovaries in plastic cubes, and as they grow, the tomatoes become “square”!

Real square tomatoes, by the way, have long been grown in Israel. But these are genetically modified foods. For a salad of square tomatoes and cucumbers, square eggs are also needed. The Chinese have launched an ingenious device for their home production.

This is a cube-shaped jar in which you need to put a hard-boiled hot egg. Having cooled down, it will take a cubic shape. Guests will be shocked! They will definitely not leave you on their own feet, you will have to call a taxi!
