Description of malvastrum
Malvastruma are creeping and erect herbaceous perennials, or small shrubs, reaching a height of one meter, from the dry regions of the tropics and subtropics.
Malvastrum is distinguished by abundant flowering. The flowers of the plant are separate, small, dark pink shades. With careful care, blooms can be observed throughout the summer.
The leaves of different species are different, but usually lobed, somewhat similar to the leaves of abutilone, but only slightly smaller.
Malvastrum care
Frost resistance is different for different species - some can withstand only the smallest frost. In our latitudes, malvastrum is more often grown as an annual in the open field, or in a pot culture.
Place Malvastrum in a sunny, open area. For the soil, a well-drained substrate with an admixture of sand or small stone is used. In the initial phase of growth, the plant is watered moderately, slightly moistening the ground. Fertilizer is applied every two weeks throughout the summer.
Malvastrum is able to withstand temporary drought, although additional watering during the warmest months makes the plant more decorative.
Cultivation of malvastrum
In order to stimulate subsequent flowering, the plant must be cut off the faded shoots.
For overwintering, malvastrum is brought into the room in a bright place. The maximum air temperature should be from eight to twelve degrees Celsius. In the spring, pruning and transplanting into new land are performed. Type of decoration - the bush is decorated with a pyramid or a separate stem. Cut to desired shape in early spring.
Reproduction of malvastrum is done by seeds in the spring or green cuttings in the summer.
