Whether it is a winding stream or a romantic waterfall, the flowing water always adorns the garden.

How nice it is when you hear that nearby water gurgles soothingly … The brook not only gives positive emotions, but also creates a good microclimate in the garden. An ideal prerequisite for creating a brook is a plot with a natural slope. On a flat area, you can model a small hill from the ground left after the arrangement of the pond. A trickle, flowing out of the source, will run along the channel and flow into a pond located below or some kind of container with a pump, through which water will be pumped back into the source.

Materials for building a stream can be very different. The greatest freedom in modeling the channel is provided by a film covering, which is laid in the same way as in the pond bed. Depending on the size of the site, you can create a winding stream, a stormy "mountain" stream or a water ladder.

The shape of the stream determines the speed of movement of water in it. If the channel is narrow and with sufficient slope, the flow will be fast. In general, a slope of only 2-3 cm per linear meter is sufficient to create water movement.

If you are planning to make cascades and waterfalls, then this value should be significantly higher (the stones in the stream should be concreted with trass cement). So that the stream does not dry out completely when the pump is turned off, it is necessary to make reservoirs at different levels in which water can accumulate.

The width of the stream is usually from 50 to 120, and the depth is from 30 to 60 cm. However, whatever the size of the channel, try to use a single piece of film, otherwise it will need to be glued together securely. To determine how wide the film should be, add twice the depth of the stream to the maximum width of the stream, plus 25 cm at the edges. Measure the length with a rope, laying it along the dug channel. In any case, buy film with a margin. Having laid the covering, you can start decorating the stream - for example, using boulders to create thresholds on it, beautifully decorate the banks. If you have building skills, a small stream can be given a very bizarre shape yourself. If you are planning large-scale water structures with waterfalls and cascades, then it is better to turn to professionals. This advice is also relevant when laying stone and concrete channels.

An inexpensive alternative to a homemade bed is a ready-made plastic bed. There are various modifications on sale:

with and without swamp zones. The stock is assembled from individual elements that are connected together with fasteners or screws.

Obviously, the stream will look boring without plants, so plant herbaceous perennials, grasses and shrubs outside the channel. In the stream itself, in order to prevent flooding, the number of plants should be limited. It is best to create grooves enclosed with stones and plant suitable plants in them, depending on the depth.
