A sunflower needs a lot of sunlight to grow. Few can afford this luxury. Because all the best is for vegetables. After all, they feed the summer resident all year round. And what about the sunflower? Pampering is one. But not everyone thinks so, and the sunflower on their site thrives happily and pleases with notable harvests.

Since childhood, the endless fields of sunflowers have been etched into my memory. But my life turned out so that I spent most of it in the stone jungle of a big city. And so I decided to come to grips with farming. Just on the occasion, he inherited a small plot of land in the Belgorod region. Of course, I started with potatoes and vital vegetables. When I sat everything down on the beds, I suddenly remembered about the sunflower. But there was almost no room left. Then I planted a few seeds along the site. But only three sunflowers rose that year. And so frail that it was scary to watch.
The next year I decided to rectify the situation and prepared thoroughly. Donated part of the potato plot - the southern part, where the sun did not transfer all day. I selected the largest seeds for sowing. I watched them to be full and dense.

Before sowing, I soaked them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour. After that, it was kept for 12 hours in a solution of boric acid (2 mg per liter of water). After such a procedure, the seeds are well washed and dried.
All this must be done in order for the seeds to sprout quickly and give strong roots.
Sowing began in mid-May, when the ground warmed up well. I checked it with a thermometer. For sowing sunflower, the ground temperature at a depth of 10 cm must be at least 12 °.
I prepared the soil like this. I made deep holes (30 cm), put fresh manure on the bottom (for warmth), covered it with earth mixed with humus and mineral fertilizer. He poured the wells with warm water so that the earth was completely saturated. The seeds were sown to a depth of 6 cm according to the scheme 40 × 30 cm. The holes were repaired so that their surface was below ground level.

Friendly shoots appeared in two weeks. Regularly watered the sprouts and, as they grew, sprinkled earth on each so that they rooted well.
There was no more trouble with sunflowers. Weed the weeds a couple of times. And so - they grew up and grew up. All summer beauty on the site. Even the work was fun. You look at the bright solar heads, and the mood rises above heaven.

They say beginners are lucky. So in that first year, when I planted sunflowers according to all the rules, I gathered a notable harvest of seeds. I left a little for seeds, and indulge in seeds.
Since that time, I plant sunflower every year and I am not overjoyed. And there was not a year that sunflowers let me down.
