These stories are inspiring because they make you believe in your own strength. Such people cause sincere admiration, because their unusually beautiful garden speaks not only of the impeccable taste of the owners, but also of the colossal work that they put into every square meter. No gardeners. No landscape designers. In the truest sense of the word, with their own hands the Voropaevs from Dnipro managed to create a garden that one can only dream of. Although, wait, why dream? If someone succeeded, then why don't you try? Read an interview with the owner of the garden "Eva", see beautiful photos, get inspired and plan for the next season!

From dacha to "Eve"

Lyudmila, tell us how your garden began? How long did you go to see him?

We started to get involved in gardening a long time ago. At first they experimented at my grandmother's dacha. She was very small, just over five acres. But so beautiful! And very cozy. However, the time came when my husband and I realized that our desires and aspirations had already outgrown the capabilities of this small plot. I wanted space. Places where you could give free rein to your imagination. And the dacha, you know, is such a "bewitched" place where your landings are constantly being stolen. Nothing can be done about it, probably.

In general, 11 years ago it was time to start the history of the new garden. Together with buildings, a vegetable garden, an orchard - its area is 28 acres. This place is very convenient for suburban life. We chose it for a long time. After all, they were looking for a place not just for a garden and a vegetable garden - for our new home! At that time, our daughter was expecting a child. And when she saw this place, she immediately said that this is exactly what we have been looking for. We decided that it was our granddaughter who helped us make a choice in absentia. Therefore, the garden was named after her - "Eve".

Where did you have to start in a new place?

11 years ago there was an open field here. Even the soil was brought in. Naturally, the rough work on the site planning had to be done using special equipment. We decided to create our garden piece by piece. And they began to master first the part that is located behind the house, the patio, so to speak. At that time, we were already experienced gardeners. Thanks to the dacha, books and magazines, we were already quite well versed in plants, learned how to properly care for them.

The size of the new plot significantly exceeded the size of my grandmother's dacha, but, all the same, we moved a lot of our plants to a new place. True, I had to buy a lot. And this is where our knowledge came in handy. To save money, some plants were purchased at sales. Of course, they had to be treated and nursed. Books and magazines also helped in planning the garden. Bright pictures seduced and gave hope that we could be no less beautiful.

How much is Eden worth?

This hope came true in full! Photos of your kindergarten personally cause me a childish delight. And along with it, and, excuse me, a mercantile question about its value in dollar terms

I'm not ashamed to say that the money has been invested… immeasurably! At the same time, we performed and carry out all the planting and care ourselves. Some plants were bought by adults and, naturally, they cost a lot. Black pine, for example, and Ginkgo. Retaining walls were made of stone, which was brought from Crimea 13 years ago. Its value has grown significantly today.

Gardens with a small area and a young age of the owners can be equipped with small seedlings and wait for them to grow. We started to create our new garden at a fairly mature age. Today, having created the basis of the garden, we are already buying only small plants. We grow a lot of plants from seeds, propagate by cuttings. Fortunately, we have an impressive experience. The eyes are afraid, but the hands are doing!

It is impossible to calculate the exact amount we have invested in our garden. But I probably agree with the opinion of experts who say that one hundred square meters of such gardens costs about a thousand dollars.

Is the cost of plants so huge?

Not only. Plants, materials for paths, grates for vines, garden arches, various stands … By the way, we do not use garden figures. Probably outgrown. It is impossible to imagine roses and clematis in our garden without pyramids and trellises. A separate expense item is garden paths. After all, they carry a great functional load, and not only aesthetic one. This does not mean that we only walk on the paths, and on the lawn - easily!

And the cost of work, in general, cannot be estimated, because working on your site is a great pleasure …

What are the most expensive plants in your garden? And do you know how many “inhabitants” live in the “Eve” garden today?

The plants that we planted in memory of our parents, Canadian pine and Ginkgo, are the most expensive in both direct and figurative meaning. We took different parts of the garden (lawns) into work gradually. Each of these sites has its own name. So we are not confused about what is growing where. It is impossible to count all the plants that grow in our garden today. A lot of. We do not create any collections as such. We don't need this. When choosing plants, we simply strive to take into account the wishes of all family members.

More recently, many peonies have been added to the garden. Roses are a separate topic. There are never many of them. For roses, I will always find a place in the garden, even when it seems that there is nowhere to plant. Actually, there is not enough space. Our plants grow and for some reason take up much more space than we allocated for them initially. Perhaps we did not very accurately calculate their size in adulthood. But also, as my husband says, they are so big, because they feel good here …

Work that never ends

I understand that you had a clear plan for the development of the garden from the very beginning of its creation. Have you already implemented everything from the original plan?

From the very beginning, we decided to split several recreation areas on the site. The Wine Room is one of them. It is a platform of old brick, which is surrounded by a privet fence. In the center is an elm on a trunk. True, he did not begin to respond to our demand soon - several years have passed. Now it is cool there on a sunny day - the branches of the elm trees serve as a tent.

I like to have a cup of tea here in the morning, enjoy the silence or the singing of birds, leaf through an interesting book or make an entry on duty in my diary. Yes, I am writing a diary. He “knows” everything that happens in our garden and in our family. In the evenings in the "wine room" we often arrange gatherings with our guests - family and friends. We enjoy the evening coolness, discuss plans, talk, listen and keep quiet …

A vegetable garden and an orchard were also planned from the very beginning, but they began to be implemented a little later. It was not very good with the garden at first. We didn't have much experience in gardening. But after all, no one forbade the use of someone else's? The neighbors helped with advice, again - books, and then they mastered the Internet.

Does the vegetable garden take up a lot of your time? What farming methods do you use?

My vegetable beds only know organic farming methods. Don't dig! The plane cutter is our best friend and helper. Of course, mulch and green manure. We practically do not use any chemistry in the garden. In an orchard, no matter how hard we try, it still happens that we have to resort to chemical treatment.

Such a large garden is a daily work. What kind of work do you have to do every day? What equipment or garden tools do you use?

Our plants, even though they are already grown, require our attention every day. They are like children. Some are more capricious, some are less. For example, hydrangeas in our garden require special attention, even though they are unpretentious plants in themselves. We have too much sun for them. So we water them constantly.

Regular maintenance in our garden is ensured primarily by mulching. Mulch eliminates constant loosening and weed control and makes the soil attractive to soil organisms. Both sawdust and seed husks are used for mulch … In this matter, a branch shredder is a very great help.

In general, good technology and high-quality tools are what I do not recommend for gardeners to save on. This is a huge help! We have an aerator, lawn mowers, and even an outdoor vacuum cleaner. A good sprayer helps to quickly treat plants from pests. You can't do without an electric brush cutter. For cutting and shaping, it is a must.

What would you, as an experienced gardener, advise our readers who are just starting to create the garden of their dreams?

Patience, patience and patience again. Don't try to cover everything at once. Don't wait for instant results. Plants take time to show all their beauty. Try to initially consider the future sizes of the skeletal plantings. This will save you strength in the future - you don't have to transplant. While the plants are small, plant annuals and small perennials next to them. They can be transplanted without any problems.

Tell us about your plans for the future. What else, in your opinion, is missing in your garden?

There are many plans. I want to transfer the whole vegetable garden to high beds. It is necessary to redo the wooden steps, to bring to mind a few more lawn areas … It happens - once - and the understanding comes that something urgently needs to be redone … I look at the garden from the side and see its weaknesses. Gardening never ends!

Not the only garden

And, besides the garden, do you have any other hobbies, hobbies? Or is the garden your "only love"?

Weaving wreaths of fresh flowers brings me great pleasure. This is so much room for creativity! I like to carefully select plants for each wreath. This process disciplines me a lot. I quickly try to finish all the housework and gardening work so that I can enthusiastically start creating a new wreath. I love to see how the person to whom it was intended is sincerely happy with the result of my work.

And who are these lucky ones?

Relatives, relatives, friends … Children are in the city, but on weekends, as a rule, they come to us. In the summer we spend more time together. Our life as country dwellers is similar to the life of many others - we grow fruits and vegetables, prepare preserves for the winter, experiment with our daughter in the kitchen - try new interesting recipes, come up with our own.

In my youth, I, like many, collected recipes and wrote them down in a notebook. The number of notebooks grew every year. At that time, we tried to cook tasty and fast with a minimal assortment of products. Now both the number of products and the number of recipes are huge, but the time for cooking is becoming less and less. Therefore, we are looking for such recipes so that with minimal time expenditures you can surprise your loved ones. Over time, I realized that my mother-in-law was right, who had worked as a pharmacist all her life: “do it by eye”. I always adhere to this rule in the kitchen. I am glad that my granddaughter is already trying to cook. Fantasizes and surprises. The kitchen is, like the garden, our creative workshop.

We often have guests - friends, good acquaintances and even unfamiliar people. I am pleased to know that with us they have the opportunity to eat deliciously, take a break from the big city, and enjoy nature.

You talk so “tasty” about your life! I want to pack my suitcase and run away from the city …

When Eva was little, she loved to meet dawn with her grandfather. Her husband raised her every day at dawn. They left the house and watched the birth of a new day. And only after that did the granddaughter return to bed to watch dreams. In the city, people do not have this opportunity. Here we rejoice at sunrises and sunsets, admire the starry sky, in the morning we wake up not from the noise of city traffic, but from the fact that a pheasant is screaming … we have a huge variety of them, by the way. We are already taking measures so that the entire crop is not eaten.
