Fortunately, or unfortunately, we are all accustomed to the fact that the flower arrangements that decorate our flower beds, rabatki, mixborders, and sometimes the beds, have a purely aesthetic character. However, in fact, the flowers are not only good visually, but also extremely useful, and … delicious. Of course, not every one of them has a rich, pleasant taste, but many, falling into the skillful hands of a chef, are able to become a real masterpiece of cooking. And most often these are those cute "coquettes" of our gardens and vegetable gardens, which we would not even think of. In this article, we offer you a list of some of the edible flowers.

Primrose
Its early flowering pleases many of us with delicate sunspots of yellow flowers. But who would have guessed that the same flowers can be used to decorate pastries or add sophistication to a cake. The flower petals themselves aren't particularly tasty, but the ones covered in egg white and sugar are delicious!

Daisies
These discreet crumbs also entered the world of culinary arts as an exquisite decoration for desserts. However, not only flowers are edible, but also leaves - they are usually added to spring vitamin salads. But the kidneys of daisies are used for marinating with tarragon and dressing soups, added to the second courses.

Tulips
Yes Yes! And these, beloved by many, spring favorites of flower beds are widely used in cooking. Their baked onions taste like sweet potatoes. Candied petals blended with cream or whipped cream make for a gourmet treat. And a wonderful salad is prepared from fresh tulip leaves. There are several restaurants in the world (in Canada and France) that include more than one dish in their menu with the addition of this unusual ingredient!

Fragrant violet
This is the only type of violet that can be used for food. It is used entirely: added to vegetable side dishes, fruit salads, and surprisingly tender jelly is prepared from fresh petals.

Chamomile officinalis
The petals of this wonderful flower are good both in tea and in medicinal tinctures. But not only! They give an extraordinary delicate aroma to oatmeal, an additional exquisite touch to jams, and a soft drink made from chamomile syrup is ready to compete even with cucumber lemonade!

Calendula
Everyone knows that the tincture of its petals has multifaceted medicinal properties. But the fact that this is a wonderful seasoning for meat, soups and potatoes - not many have come across. However, calendula has a spicy peppery flavor and a beautiful golden color that gives the dishes a genuine originality. Some chefs cook it as a separate dish, serving stewed inflorescences as an excellent side dish for meat, fish, dressing salads and soups with them.

Nasturtium
Everything in this plant is edible except the roots. Nasturtium leaves are added to sandwiches, salads, used to make vinegar. Capers are prepared from green seeds. And flowers are considered the best gourmet delicacy.

Mallow
About what, about what, but about this plant you will not think that it is edible. But in fact, candied mallow flowers are a wonderful decoration for baked goods and desserts. Its boiled leaves have a pleasant nutty flavor, and the seeds are used as an excellent seasoning, with a rather bright cheese flavor.

Geranium
The flowers of this well-known flower are used for freezing ice cubes, added to ice cream and whipped cream, and boiled fruits. The leaves are mixed into tea, baked with pears and apples.

Some more edible flowers
Used in cooking and begonia flowers, and chrysanthemum petals, and carnations, and irises, and gladiolus, and dahlia, and monarda, and cornflower, and marigolds (black shaves), and, of course, a rose. They all have different flavors and therefore are the highlight of all kinds of dishes. However, it is better to use plants from your garden for food, in the ecological purity of which you are absolutely sure. Do not use pistils and stamens in cooking.

And further! If you are not sure that you are ready for such unusual experiments - do not experiment! Just know that your flower bed is unique in every way and therefore deserves special attention!
