Somehow, things went wrong with me. No, as a child I, of course, loved them. But with age, I realized that the wool on the sofas, the meowing in the morning and the daily change of the tray are not mine. But children need a pet - that's for sure! By caring for a pet, children grow up with a kinder attitude towards the world. Therefore, a search was announced for the best "family" friend without any negative features. And soon we saw a woman selling decorative rabbits. Understanding the responsibility of the acquisition, they did not immediately make a purchase. We went home and started studying the topic. What kind of animal is a decorative rabbit?

The decorative rabbit is quite an interesting animal. Depending on the breed, it can be large, medium or very small. At the same time, the most popular are lop-eared, dwarf breeds, individuals with a snow-white, beige color, chinchilla color.

Being smart enough, rabbits easily bond with their owners, are well trained and become part of the family. But each of them has its own character! And it depends not only on upbringing, but also on the breed and gender. So, according to my observations, girls are more playful and friendly, easier to get into hands. Boys do not like to be taken in their arms, although they are sincerely attached to the owner.

Rabbits are cute. Although large breeds, even small ones, it is impossible to look at them without affection. But if the wrong care is applied or the pet does not have enough attention, the animal begins to rebel and behave "not cute": banging its paws on the floor, fiddling with the cage.

Rabbits need companionship and space. They should run around the house for at least two hours a day. In this case, the surface of the floor should not slide, otherwise the animal may form incorrect paws.

Before starting a rabbit, you need to think carefully. Like any other animal, it has its own positive and negative characteristics, with which you will not only have to put up with, but also make up for them.

Advantages of a decorative rabbit as a pet

Rabbits are silent animals. With good content, they don't make sounds. Sometimes individual individuals purr like cats - this indicates that they feel good.

Domestic rabbits are easy to train. If given enough time every day, they become completely tame and can carry out certain commands.

You can train such a pet to the tray in just a week. Moreover, if he freely walks around the house, going to the toilet in the cage is not a problem for him. You don't have to change your rabbit's toilet every day. If you buy a good filler, it will last for a long time.

The rabbit is quite inexpensive to feed. However, he should always have water, dry vitamin feed and hay or grass.

The rabbit does not need walks on the street, and their choice is wide enough today. There are a huge number of breeds that differ not only in size, color, ear length, but also in behavior.

Cons of keeping a pet rabbit

Rabbits are social animals and need your attention. However, you will not receive affection in return, especially if it is a boy. Girls are more gentle. If you train them, they will walk and even watch TV with you. Males are sure that they are the owners of the house.

Rabbit boys, like cats, mark territory. They have special glands on their faces, so you can see how they rub against objects with their chin. But that's not all! If the rabbit has not been to some part of the house for a long time or enters the territory for the first time, he will definitely leave a couple (and sometimes more, depending on his mood) "peas".

If you feed the rabbit with hay (which is not necessary), small pieces fly through the walls of the cage, polluting the space around.

The constant growth of the rabbit's teeth provokes him to gnaw something all the time. At the beginning of its development, it can gnaw wires, wallpaper. But if you make it clear to him that you do not like it and add twigs to the food, he will sharpen his teeth about them, and forget about the wires.

A rabbit needs a large cage, and it takes up a lot of space. But this is not enough - he must warm up every day, freely walking around the house.

Rabbits can get sick. They are afraid of drafts. But if you put the cage in the right place and get vaccinated on time, trouble can be avoided. Domestic rabbits live for about 12 years. So, buying a rabbit, you need to tune in to a long coexistence with him.

Some notes from personal experience

Often there are negative reviews about domestic rabbits on the Internet. If you read them carefully, you will notice that failures in raising a pet are due to the fact that the owners were not ready to spend their time on it. Hence the rebelliousness and harm.

The domestic rabbit is a social animal, it cannot live without communication and education. If you do not teach him the correct, in your understanding, behavior, he will behave in accordance with instincts, for example, chewing on wires and ruining the wallpaper. If you let him know that you don’t like it, he will quickly understand and stop naughty.

There is a very common airborne disease, rhinitis. The rabbit sneezes and runs out of his nose. Often rabbit breeders and veterinarians say that this is not cured. In any case, it was so with us. But, in fact, it is enough to pierce the animal with the right drugs and everything goes away.

A rabbit's menu may include a variety of herbs, vegetables and fruits, but not beets or cabbage. A little and rarely is possible, but only a little and rarely. From them, the animal's stomach swells, diarrhea begins - the rabbit may die. In addition, you should not buy food with grain - rabbits simply do not eat it. You don't need to feed them from your table - they love cookies, they can eat a piece of cheese. I heard that some people even eat borscht (I can't imagine how?), But this is not at all useful for them.

It is correct that the cage always contains water, dry food, hay or grass and twigs of trees other than stone fruit species. We give our willow twigs. In addition to sharpening his teeth about them, he also disinfects the intestines.

If your pet is white or chinchilla, you need to be careful in choosing vegetables with a bright color. From an excess of carrots or red pepper, the rabbit's face will turn untidy yellow or (we had it) blood red, the animal will look ugly.

To prevent his legs from turning yellow, place a layer of hay on an absorbent mat. Then contact with the "toilet" will be minimized and the legs will remain natural.

Dear Readers! The rabbit is not an animal for every family. If you don't have at least a little time for it every day, you don't need to start it - you will be in conflict all the time. He will persistently ask for attention using methods available to him, which are likely to annoy you. If you are ready to devote time to him - this is a cute creature, he will give you a lot of positive emotions!
