Video: August - We Occupy The Beds For The Second Crop Rotation. What To Plant In August?

People say - August is the end of summer, the crown of harvests. Indeed, the main work in August is harvesting grown products, laying them for the winter, processing vegetables and fruits. In most regions of Russia, August is warm, and it is a pity to look at the empty beds where the crops are harvested. But gardeners with experience and in August get a harvest of fresh vegetable and green crops, occupying the beds after early harvested garlic, peas, onions, early cabbage, early potatoes and other crops.

What to sow at the beginning of August and what - later?
August is the last month of summer, the extreme heat is gone, the nights are getting cool. An excellent time for planting early maturing crops that require night coolness. These are all kinds of green, spicy-flavoring crops, from vegetables - radishes, daikon, early varieties of beets and carrots for bunch products, onions for herbs, radish, various types of salads. There is a sufficient list of crops for replanting in the crop rotation of your garden.
It is most practical to start with green and spicy flavors (dill, watercress, basil, coriander and others). When optimal conditions are created, they sprout quickly, form a green mass, which is repeatedly renewed after cutting.
Then comes the turn of onions for greens, peas, early and super early varieties of beets and carrots for bunch products. Root crops will not be giants and the harvest will be small, but they will delight you with the unusual taste of young vegetables. Try to plant a 40-day day in early August. Harvest young potatoes in early September. Boiled dill with herbs is an incomparable dish.
Peking cabbage sown since mid-August will delight with the harvest, and the black radish of early varieties will even have time to ripen. It was the turn of the radish and daikon. The earliest ripening ones, they will have time to form tasty root vegetables. After 15-20 days, fresh root vegetables will be on your table.
In autumn, radish is especially sweet, without a sharp rare taste. All these crops can be sown 2-3 times in 7-8 days for a month and prolong the “green” pleasure.
August is the time for siderates. If you want a big harvest next year - sow mustard, peas, phacelia. Greens will rise 10-15 cm, ready for digging. At the same time, all autumn weeds will turn into green fertilizers.

Features of autumn crops
Sowing agrotechnics of all of the above types of vegetables does not differ from spring plantings.
Preliminary work
Remove plant debris, weeds and water from the vacated beds. Anyone who has a ready-made working solution "Baikal EM-1", add it to the soil for irrigation at a concentration of 1: 100, that is, add 100 ml of a base solution (not a concentrate) to 10 liters of water. During this preparatory period, EOs will rapidly multiply in warm soil and successfully disinfect the soil from most representatives of negative microflora.
Soil preparation and sowing
As soon as the soil is ripe, loosen it 10-15 cm. At the same time, remove some of the weeds. On the bed, cut furrows or 3-row strips 2-3 or 3-4 cm deep on sandy loam soils. Apply nitrophosphate under irrigation of the furrows, but it is better (if any) kemira, kristallon or other complex fertilizers containing microelements. You can add a planriz solution or a tank mixture with trichopolum and epin.
This soil preparation system can be used for all crops planted with the second rotation. It will not only fertilize the soil, but also activate beneficial microorganisms that will suppress the development of a number of fungal and bacterial diseases, and will help the seeds to start growing faster. After such soil preparation, the seedlings of the sown crops will appear 2-4 days earlier, which is important at the end of summer.

Sowing and care
While preparing the beds, put the seeds that you are planning to sow on for the cultivation. It is better to moisten seeds for kilchevny with a solution of root or other stimulant.
Sprinkle the sown seeds with dry soil or sand and mulch with fine mulch (peat, sawdust, crushed shavings). With abundant watering before sowing, mulching will prevent the formation of a soil crust, retain moisture, which will allow you to get good friendly shoots.
When the seedlings reach 1-2 leaves, break through the crops (except for spicy flavors, onions, peas), leaving a distance of 1.5-2.0 cm. The main care is sufficient watering. Do not allow the soil to dry out with the formation of a crust. Do not overdo green and spicy flavors. Perform selective cutting when they reach 10-15 cm in height.
Carry out the first thinning of the onion when the feather reaches 10 cm in height. There will be fresh onions and faster feather growth. Leafy salads with thickened planting arrows. When thinning, leave at least 5-6 cm between plants for better foliage development.
The second thinning of root crops coincides with bunch ripeness. With sufficient fertilization for sowing, fertilizing is usually not carried out. Protective measures against diseases and pests (aphids, fleas and others) can only be carried out with biological products. Plants are sprayed according to the recommendations using biofungicides and bioinsecticides. Ashes can be used against fleas by pollinating plants and soil through gauze.
Varieties and hybrids for sowing in August
For sowing in August, the following early-maturing crop varieties can be recommended.
- Beets: "Mulatto", "Red Ball", "Gribovskaya flat", "Slavyanka", "Bordeaux-237", "Pushkinskaya flat". From seedlings after 35 days, you can harvest bunch ripeness.
- Carrots: "Nantes-14", "Nantes-4", "Rex", "Chanson", "Artek", "Amsterdam", "Vitamin-6" will form a bunch of harvest in 30-40 days.
- Peking cabbage of the "Vesnyanka" variety and the hybrid "Orange Mandarin F1" within 35 and 40 days form heads of cabbage, respectively, 250-300 g and 1 kg. Recommended especially for summer sowing. Resistant to air temperature drop.
- For salads it is necessary to use autumn varieties, such as "Ballet", "Rubin", "Yana". For the formation of the crop, 30-35 days are enough for them. Early varieties in autumn may not emerge and not form a crop. The recommended varieties can be harvested in the 4-6 leaf phase, and the ruby is able to regrow cut leaves many times.
- Radish cannot stand sunny hot days. The weather in the second half of August is just radish. For sowing in the second half of August, the varieties "White Nights", "Icicle", "French Breakfast", and the hybrid "Torero F1" are recommended.
- Peas. For summer sowing, you can recommend early and mid-early varieties, which together give a harvest of technical ripeness in 40-55 days: "Vega", "Kubanets-1126", "Early canning-20/21", "Alpha", "Early Gribovsky-II" …

When re-sowing, select garden crops and varieties in such a way as to have time to prepare the soil for the main spring crops and planting. Do not occupy the beds intended for green manure planting in August. Sow the same peas, mustard and others.
