Alla Alekseevna is an old friend of my grandmother. But, despite the significant age difference, she calls me nothing more than "my girlfriend." Because we have one common love - growing plants. Alla Alekseevna's garden is located next to my parents' dacha, and every time I find myself in those parts, I try to visit this paradise. The landlady is not only a dedicated fan of gardening, but also a person with very good taste, and she has a lot to learn from. In this article, I would like to take a virtual walk through her beautiful garden. Perhaps you will also take note of a few ideas implemented on her site.

First steps to a nature garden

In her younger years, Alla Alekseevna dreamed of becoming an agronomist and even planned to enter an agricultural institute, but fate decreed otherwise. And even a man's own dacha, who loves plants so much, appeared at a fairly mature age. But this did not prevent her from successfully realizing all her ideas in life and finally creating the garden of her dreams.

When the hostess was ennobling the long-awaited six acres, it was the 90s in the yard. It was still very far from the craze for landscape design, and the simplest plants are in use among gardeners. Glossy landscape magazines, in which you could peep interesting and stylish garden ideas, are not to be found with fire during the day. Then there was no free access to the Internet. Nevertheless, Alla Alekseevna's garden became completely uncommon, since its leader was a wonderful innate sense of taste.

It was thanks to “my girlfriend” that I learned to pay attention to the beauty of simple meadow flowers. I appreciated the possibility of decorating the garden, along with decorative cultural plants, charming representatives of the local flora. Only 20 long years later, the fashion for natural flower beds will come to Russia. But Alla Alekseevna and I were already walking in the meadows and looking at the meadow plants with a sight. She had already planted lanceolate plantain and common geranium in her rock garden, while the neighbors decorated their gardens mainly with marigolds and dahlias.

But a couple of decades will pass, and flower growers will begin to massively understand the beauty of geranium and buy its numerous varieties, and even decorative forms of plantain will appear. But at that time, such ideas looked truly "non-standard".

Letniki

Traditional bright annuals are also not alien to the owner of this garden. Her favorite flower is petunia, which she grows as container plants in spectacular flowerpots located near several recreation areas. They are also planted in barrels previously used for storing irrigation water. Sometimes other bright summer people sit down to them to create more cheerful compositions.

But most often, Alla Alekseevna loves to plant petunia varieties separately in large groups, which also looks very stylish and does not bring excessive diversity to the garden. And, it would seem, well, there are petunias in almost any dacha, but all the same, Alla Alekseevna's garden stands out noticeably among other dacha gardens, and this is noticeable even from a distance.

Junipers

The main highlight of the site is the presence of slender junipers, which grow like slender columns that unite and support the garden. The many-sided conifers are very loved by the vast majority of gardeners, and it is their rich variety that often plays a cruel joke with us. After all, cases are very common when the garden turns into a variegated collection of "Christmas trees" of different colors and shapes. With Alla Alekseevna, everything is not at all like that.

In addition to the huge common forest spruce that meets us at the gate, this garden has only one species of conifers - the common columnar juniper. And there are no other conifers of a similar habit here.

Varietal name of this juniper at the moment is lost, but judging by the external features, presumably this juniper "Hibernika» (of Juniperus communis hibernica). Once the hostess planted a single tree in her garden, but the whole family liked the juniper so much that it was soon multiplied and created on six hundred square meters a whole juniper “grove”.

The only place where juniper is not found in this garden is the vegetable garden area, and the largest number of trees is concentrated in Alla Alekseevna's favorite resting place in the depths of the garden. And this is no coincidence, because the juniper significantly heals the air in the places where it grows. It is well known that the juniper releases a large amount of volatile compounds that ionize the air and have significant antiseptic properties to the point that the air in the juniper forest is literally quite sterile.

There is evidence that "juniper air" has a positive effect on bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, rhinitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, sore throat, tracheitis, and also stabilizes the psycho-emotional state of a person. Therefore, a juniper for the hostess is not only one of the most beloved conifers and an element of landscape design, but also a green healer.

In this corner of the garden, another variation of the common juniper is also planted - "Suezica" (Juniperus communis Suesica), which differs from the "Hibernika" variety by a narrower and denser regular columnar shape. But in general, both varieties of common juniper are very similar.

Thanks to this uniformity, the garden looks really stylish and strict. All other elements, obeying a similar "pillared hall", are combined into a single whole. Due to the fact that the majority of uniformity is not characteristic of ordinary summer residents who prefer to settle on the site everything that is possible (with the world on a string), this garden seems to be made by a professional designer.

Creeping conifers

The creeping coniferous species are mainly represented by ground cover juniper, presumably horizontal, whose varietal and specific name is also, unfortunately, not known to the owners. A common and instructive story for novice summer residents once happened with this juniper. A small coniferous twig acquired many years ago, which was supposed to gently creep among the stones, imperceptibly turned into a voluminous dense green carpet, displacing all the plants present here.

As a result, the rock garden had to be relocated to a new place, and an adult bush of creeping juniper among the stones turned into an independent composition.

Rock garden and its sculptures

A small rock garden in this garden is also not too variegated and not oversaturated with a large number of species. At the same time, in addition to the plant component, other inhabitants can also be observed here - garden sculptures. During the period of active appearance on sale of garden "gnomes", the taste also did not disappoint Alla Alekseevna, and she did not begin to fill her garden with variegation, culture alien to our lands.

All the sculptures in this garden are made in restrained colors and imitate the natural local fauna, while these are not "cartoon" fairy figurines, but naturalistic statues of animals. There is a gray shy hare with very lively eyes and a shy turtle and a pensive frog. Moreover, among this cute little world, the most real fauna also lives - nimble lizards, busy fat toads, hedgehogs, which the owners feed with porridge in the evenings, and many other all kinds of living creatures are warming themselves on the stones.

Alla Alekseevna, in addition, is a big lover of indoor flowers, and every summer she takes them out to her dacha, harmoniously fitting house plants into the garden design. For example, she places succulents in hanging baskets, geraniums in containers, and sometimes she plants pelargoniums directly on a flower bed, and places coleus among garden plants.

Small vegetable garden

There is also a place for a small vegetable garden on the land of the owner of the garden. Alla Alekseevna and her husband are far from young people, so they have a small garden: tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and, of course, several pumpkin bushes. One of the favorite varieties of the hostess - "Sweetie", because she not only takes up little space, thanks to its short lashes, but also produces many delicious fruits.

Alla Alekseevna is not one of those summer residents who will be “killed” in the garden, even if health and age would give such an opportunity. She knows how to enjoy life and always finds time to embroider beautiful paintings near a small pond, listen to birds singing, admire beautiful flowers … Summer is so fleeting, and you need to breathe and admire it before you return to the city apartment …
